Welcome to Oxford BioResource

The Oxford BioResource (OBr) is an umbrella organisation enabling access to consented, high quality bioresources, associated clinical data, pathology expertise, services and advanced technologies in molecular diagnostics.

To be at the forefront of cutting-edge biomedical research, resources and infrastructure must be in place to underpin specimen retrieval, governance, expertise, information systems, business management and institutional strategy. Here at Oxford we meet these challenges by pulling together infrastructure and resources based across University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. These bioresources represent the myriad biospecimen and data types available to researchers. By offering access to an efficient and reliable system of governance we can ensure compliance with UK legislation (Human Tissue Act 2004) and promote ethical research.

Services have been strengthened by alignment with Oxford BioBank, part of a national initiative funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to establish a large-scale database of volunteers with and without health problems consented to participate in research.
